EI AI, Oh my!

I’m happy that I’ll see Nora Kurzova at the Internet Identity Workshop dinner tonight. Nora is the Assistant State Privacy Officer for Utah’s initiative to shield too-young Utahns from the predations of social media.

It’s the obvious thing to do, especially in the single best state in the USA to choose, in case you have to paradrop your precious infant, hoping she’ll be taken care of by strangers.

But might there be a better way to achieve the goal? I wonder if a suitable AI might be able to grade social media entries based on the emotional intelligence (EI) of the entries?

From Wikipedia:

“People with high emotional intelligence can recognize their own emotions and those of others, use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, discern between different feelings and label them appropriately, and adjust emotions to adapt to environments.”

Icky social media entries always seem to lack those characteristics, regardless of the age of the contributor. It’s doubtful that people with low EI magically become better contributors to, or consumers of, social media when they pass a magic age.

Just sayin’.
